Burrowing Owls are native to our area (Yolo County in northern California), and are one of the few daytime-hunting owl species. They live in burrows originally dug by ground squirrels; and do not themselves do much digging. Where ground squirrels are killed off, the owls lose both their staple food and any future homes.
Burrowing owl habitat is hard to come by these days!
